At a Tidy Districts Awards ceremony held on the 11th September 2014, for 29 local groups across the county, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council announced that Cabinteely Tidy Towns Team is the overall winner of the Tidy Districts Competition 2014. Commenting on the award, the judging panel said that the group had shown great teamwork for the upkeep and maintenance of the village and surrounding area by working closely with the County Council, local schools, businesses and fellow residents associations.
Cabinteely Tidy Towns are no strangers to the dlr Tidy Districts and the National Tidy Towns competitions, having won the Tidy Districts competition in 2012 and last year won the National Tidy Towns Dublin Endeavour Award 2013 and the Dublin Commended Award 2013.
“We are very proud of all the estates and tidy towns groups who entered this years competition”, said Cathaoirleach Cllr. Marie Baker, speaking at the awards ceremony.
“The Tidy Districts Competition gives the Council the opportunity to reward the hard working residents associations and tidy towns groups in the County. These groups take an active interest in and responsibility for their own local environments. Building this type of partnership with the Council increases the sustainability of the progress achieved and results in long term environmental improvement in the estates, towns or villages.” says Kate Hynes, Environmental Awareness Officer, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.
The Cabinteely Tidy Towns Team is committed to the continuous improvement of Cabinteely Village with the active support of the Cabinteely & District Residents Association, local businesses, the schools, the Gardai and, in particular, the residents.
Tidy Towns 2014 awards were announced in September and it’s great to see that our score improved over 2013. The Adjudicator’s Report includes some recommendations which we hope to implement in 2014-15. We work to keep the village looking good throughout the year though so there is always plenty of room for volunteers to help. Notably, we got a County Award for the third best score of all entries in Dublin!
